Another Jacob's Ladder Study

This is another in the "Jacob's Ladder" series, except it just kinda went every which way.

I looked at it for a while trying to decide how to finish it and finally decided to work it on canvas stretchers.

 This is a gallery wrapped canvas, so it's about an inch and a half deep.

Now to decide what to call it.  

Suggestions?

I Carried out my Quilts on Stretchers...

No silly, the quilts aren't ill... they've just been hanging out in the art department, that's all.  I found these quilts in an unfinished pile of unfinished work.  Every self respecting ADD artist has these unfinished piles full of projects started with the best of intentions... languishing somewhere.  Out of sight, out of mind.  Sometimes when they're IN sight they are still out of mind... or perhaps I'M the one out of mind... but I digress.

Here they are, two small quilts wrapped around a stretched canvas.  They are 12 x 12 and the canvas is "gallery style" which means it 1.5 inches deep.  Again, I'm loving the dimensional quality of these.

The quilts are hand dyed fabrics, cotton, linen and silks.  Machine pieced, machine quilted. 

I'm coming down home stretch on work for the exhibit I'll put together on Monday.  I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all comes together!

Oops! Fix that one Quick!

I'm working on a little quilt on canvas stretchers inspired by the amazing Melody Johnson.  Check out her blog if you haven't already!  Only problem was, when I stood back to take a look at this lil bugga... all I saw was a great big swastica.  Crimeny!  

Sooo... I looked at it for a bit and decided it needed more flowers.  And so I made some flower type things, took another step back and decided that it was in dire need of buttons!

  So I added buttons and a little bit of hand work.  Sewing through canvas isn't all that easy so I didn't do much of that.  But check out how this looks fused to a gallery style 12 x 12 canvas.  I'm lovin Melody's canvas idea and I'm tickled by how the extra flowers add texture.

It turns out to be a relentlessly cheerful little floral thingi.  Do you think the swastika is gone enough?  I still see it but it's better than it was.  Oh, and I'm still getting used to machine quilting on my (new to me) antique Singer sewing machine, I'll get the hang of that one of these days.  This was a very interesting experiment, I'll do this again sometime!
