YAY! Studio time!!

Finally a little studio time today! YAY!

 The first layer of sage green glaze is on these for a commissioned set of wine glasses plus some vases.

 Plus all my usual favorite colors are in the works!  The first round of glaze is on these, more tomorrow if I get the chance.

Dinner was zucchini, yellow squash, yellow and purple fingerling potatoes, onions, mushrooms, garlic, and chicken with herbs and pepper.  Then I added Parmesan and sea salt just at the end when it came out of the oven.  Delicious! And perfect for these last days of March that have started with ice on my windshield each morning.  Spring is coming, really it is! 

Now, how many days will it take a single woman to eat all that?  LOL!

Back in the Kitchen Again

It's that time again, kids! I've sent lots and lots of glass through the dish washer. I got out all my colors...

Seems like every surface in the kitchen has disappeared under glass...

or glaze.

My paint brushes are all ready, so are the little spongy things.

It's taken a long time, and quite honestly I didn't know if it could be done in a tiny little apartment kitchen...

But I'm giving it my best shot!

The Quilt Inspired by a Vase

This quilt top that I made the other day... (colors not true)

Today I quilted it and combined it with one of these dimensional frames.... (These have glass and the artwork is raised about a half inch off of the surface and there is a spacer so that the quilt is still not touching the glass.)

This resulted in this piece:

And here it is with the vase that inspired the color choice... a vase that I glazed sometime last year. I LIKE them together! These will be fun to use in my exhibit on Monday.

JMU Order

I'm working on an order for a JMU professor, he'll be giving these as Christmas gifts this year. Wine glasses in school colors, isn't that a great idea? I'll post more photos soon, this is only four sets but it gives a feel for how diverse they are. I need to finish these up this week, I am hoping to deliver them this weekend.

New Glazed Glass

I've been in full tilt production of glazed glass recently to prep for some holiday shows. I've been a little behind about documenting the work with photographs. So this is me playing "catch up!"

I reclaim glass and glaze it, I'm not actually blowing glass or creating the shapes, just redeeming something that would otherwise be headed for the landfill or recycling. There four are $29 - $44
This one third from right is interesting with the frosted glass, I haven't done much with frosting but I think I'll be doing more now! $24 - $44
Again with the frosted gradation of color along with the frosted look on first and second from last one here: $27 - $42
Last one on right one of my favorites, I've always loved turquoise and purple together. $19 - $36
These are the smallest ones, for some reason the little ones are always my favorites. There just isn't anything much better than one of these little buggas with a few blooms from the garden on the table in the summer time! $16 - $19
I've got more glazed glass in the works, photos to come. Is there anything better than playing with color for a living? I doubt it. I really doubt it.

Wine Glasses

These are hand painted wine glasses. The glaze is non-toxic and there is no glaze on the inside of the glass. The glaze has been thermo-hardened and is dishwasher resistant... which is a nice way of saying that they'll be fine in the dishwasher as long as you don't do that too often. I spin on the glaze and texture using a pottery wheel, no two items are ever the same.

Weaving Rainbows into Glass Again

My work has been juried into Oasis Gallery in Harrisonburg. I started out at Oasis back in 2004 and worked in the media of Art Glass at the time. It was quickly profitable enough that I left my cush job as an Art Consultant to go do the art glass thing full time. I’ve worked professionally in 15 different art media since then and I migrated away from the Art Glass into/through other things. Recently I pulled out my glazes and glass supplies and made up some things for an event, trying to use up supplies I had on hand. When I was in the middle of the work, I remembered how much I liked the process and how beautifully the work came together. I found it very rewarding and decided I wanted more of that in my life again. So here I am again. I’ve recently left another job and in some ways I feel like I’m repeating myself by going back to the glass. But on the other hand, there are few things more important to me than being able to do the work that I love… and that work is anything that has to do with color and creativity. It doesn’t matter to me what the art media is, just so it involves color and creativity. This image is one I created ages ago that shows me weaving a rainbow into my glass. I’m happy with how it turned out.
