Back in the Kitchen Again

It's that time again, kids! I've sent lots and lots of glass through the dish washer. I got out all my colors...
Seems like every surface in the kitchen has disappeared under glass...
or glaze.
My paint brushes are all ready, so are the little spongy things.

It's taken a long time, and quite honestly I didn't know if it could be done in a tiny little apartment kitchen...

But I'm giving it my best shot!
Happy Creating!

New Glazed Glass

I've been in full tilt production of glazed glass recently to prep for some holiday shows. I've been a little behind about documenting the work with photographs. So this is me playing "catch up!"

Click on an image for a closer look, there is a wide variety of colors and shapes here.

The largest ones: $44 - $47
I reclaim glass and glaze it, I'm not actually blowing glass or creating the shapes, just redeeming something that would otherwise be headed for the landfill or recycling. There four are $29 - $44
This one third from right is interesting with the frosted glass, I haven't done much with frosting but I think I'll be doing more now! $24 - $44
Again with the frosted gradation of color along with the frosted look on first and second from last one here: $27 - $42
Last one on right one of my favorites, I've always loved turquoise and purple together. $19 - $36
These are the smallest ones, for some reason the little ones are always my favorites. There just isn't anything much better than one of these little buggas with a few blooms from the garden on the table in the summer time! $16 - $19
I've got more glazed glass in the works, photos to come. Is there anything better than playing with color for a living? I doubt it. I really doubt it.

Thanks to each of you for dropping by my blog. I've started lists in the side bar of visitors to my blog and the countries or states they visit from, this fascinates me and makes me feel that this big world of us is just a little smaller than it used to be. So here's to connections across time and space. Thanks for visiting my blog, wherever you hail from, come back soon! Never can tell what I'll be into next!

Dichroic Glass Necklace Sets

I'm playing around with combining dichroic pendants into jewelry sets. Here are the first two and so far I think I'll be making more.
This one in lavender and pale green is cool in person, somehow I'm not getting photos that show the colors and reflections in this work. I need to take the time to do some research on the photography of dichroic glass, hopefully soon.
These two are headed for a regional gallery here shortly, it will be interesting to see how people respond to them.

Christmas Ornaments

I made small jewelry pendant sized wreaths, and suddenly I wanted to try making ornaments as well... so after some experimenting this is how they turned out. Each of these are about three inches across plus the silver bail. They are tack fused and then I used my glass glazes (check out the hand painted glass on my website for an example)to add words and another layer of texture in pearl white. These ornaments meld my work in kiln glass fusing and glazing glass together. The wreath is made from crushed stained glass and also some crushed dichroic glass, all carefully placed with a clear section in the middle. All of them (some photos were taken before I had added the bails)now have a silver jewelry bail. I think these would be pretty in a window at Christmas time!
Peace, Hope, Love... mostly lavender
Peace, Joy, Love... mostly green
Hope, Love, Joy... mostly turquoise and cobalt blue
Faith, Hope and Love... Multi earthy colors.
The cool tones all together on a scarf. $35 each.

Donuts hot and fresh from the kiln!

Millefiori glass, dichroic glass and lots of color in a wearable donut style wire wrapped with red covered copper wire.
Pink dichroic glass donuts with accent colors and some millefiori glass.
Some misc donut pendants. Direct sun really doesn't work for photographing these.
Delicate wreaths of colored glass and millefiori in a tack fused style that keeps the texture of the glass but takes off all the sharp edges. These would be beautiful to wear or to dress up a Christmas tree or gift for the holidays! Click image for a better look at the larger image. I think I'd wear it on a ribbon at the holidays and/or maybe hang it in the window over the holidays. Cute and delicate looking pendant or ornament.
All donut styles are $25 each.

Dichroic Glass Pendants

One of the fun things about working with fused glass is putting the pieces in the kiln before going to bed and programing the computer on the kiln to fire and cool. By morning the temperatures are back to normal and it is safe for me to open it up and see what happened while I slept (if I slept.) I can be laying in bed groaning to myself about the inevitability of another day, then think about the glass and suddenly want to jump out of bed to go discover what happened. It's always a treat to open the kiln door! I've finally taken the time to work out some pricing that makes more sense in the long run. So here are some photos of the things that have come out of the kiln lately, though some of it has sold and some out it is out at a local gallery.
(Click the image to see the larger version)
Six small pieces: A- sold, B - $16, C - $16, D - $19, E - $16. F - out

Top Row: G - $19, H - out, I - sold
Second Row: J - $25, K - $19, L - $19, M - $29
Bottom Row: N - out, O - $21, P - out

Top Row: Q - out, R - out, S - $22 T - $28
Lower Row: U - $27, V - $28, W-$20, X - $20, Y - out

The only two available from the above photo are the the first one in the top row: $32
And the first one in the second row: $30

The turquoise piece on the right is available $33

There are more coming, one batch came out of the kiln this afternoon and there is a batch that should come out in the morning, provided I have time to get to them. I have a number of deadlines this week, so I'm really trying to kick it in high gear around here, I'll post more photos as I can.

Fresh From the Fire.

Two tack fused pendants in oranges and red with a little dichroic glass. There was another cool star shaped one but it broke. Tsk tsk These are $20 each.
This is an ornament I made for my Mom whose favorite color is lavender. It's crushed lavender glass, clear and dichroic glass tack fused so that it keeps it's texture. Then I grind off all the sharp edges so that it doesn't hurt anyone. I like how it turned out! *Not for sale.*
Plus, I made a number of new kiln shelves to fit my kiln and they turned out beautifully!

Wine Glasses

hand painted classic wine glasses with pearl accents.
Set of 12 - $180 - SOLD
Would you like to commission a set in your colors?

These are hand painted wine glasses. The glaze is non-toxic and there is no glaze on the inside of the glass. The glaze has been thermo-hardened and is dishwasher resistant... which is a nice way of saying that they'll be fine in the dishwasher as long as you don't do that too often. I spin on the glaze and texture using a pottery wheel, no two items are ever the same.

Still Warm from the Kiln

Here are some of my latest experiments in the kiln. I love the streaks in this one, so much color!
Warmer colors in this one and I like the long slender look.
Another long slender one, I love the graceful curves in this one and the play between clear and opaque glass.
I left a batch in the kiln last night cooling their heels. I could hardly wait to get them out and see what the heat had done to them this morning. Here are the rest of them.
I'm back in the hand painted glass studio today so the dichroic glass will need to wait a bit. I really do enjoy the play of light and color in this media though. No telling what the kiln will do to a piece. Each day is a light and color adventure around here.

*Pendants are $20 each, shipping is free for orders over $100!*

More Highlights from the new Glass Studio!

This isn't everything from the latest collection, but some of it. I love what I do! All these glorious colors make me happy!!

Three sisters.

Since I work mostly in reclaimed glass, it is unusal to find the same shape in a variety of sizes but fun when it happens!

More sisters all dressed up.

The bubble bowl family.
I would take the time to make each piece available online, but the truth is, this stuff sells so quickly that I just never get that task accomplished. However, if you see something in these photos that you'd love to purchase, simply email me at info at carmenrosestudio dot com.

Glass Highlights

A fun triplet of blue/green glass vases dressed up in pearl.

A matching pair.

Multi colors spun on with gold detailing.

A lively batch of three tall vases with pearl detailing.

The "blue neck" series (well, not rednecks anyway) with lots of color and gold detailing.

Sunshine and Color!

Carmen Rose Studio has moved to a new studio and here is the first work from the new location. Maybe the fact that I love my new work area is showing through in this colorful collection of art glass.
The large one is sold.

I especially love this large vase with lid!
Sunlight and art glass are a happy combination!
