WOW!

This is the coolest thing!  My kickstarter.com project has just passed 50% funding and there are 25 hours to go!  A HUGE thank you going out to:

& Sara
These dream makers have touched my heart by supporting this project and I have been SO touched by their generous hearts!

And look at this beautiful pair of rainbows from the storm on the 15th.
I sure had fun taking a break from my work to enjoy these!  I took LOTS of photos that evening!
When I first saw it the rainbow was complete from side to side, then the second rainbow started to shine and the other end of it vanished.  Here's the last photo before it vanished altogether:

And thanks so much!!

YAY! Studio time!!

Finally a little studio time today! YAY!
The first layer of sage green glaze is on these for a commissioned set of wine glasses plus some vases.
Plus all my usual favorite colors are in the works!  The first round of glaze is on these, more tomorrow if I get the chance.
Dinner was zucchini, yellow squash, yellow and purple fingerling potatoes, onions, mushrooms, garlic, and chicken with herbs and pepper.  Then I added Parmesan and sea salt just at the end when it came out of the oven.  Delicious! And perfect for these last days of March that have started with ice on my windshield each morning.  Spring is coming, really it is!

Now, how many days will it take a single woman to eat all that?  LOL!

Happy Creating,

Finally!

As the glass comes out I get to take a look at the textures and colors all over again.  Here comes the first batch now.
I love making stripes!  I have work like this in collections all over the world, and it's what I'm known for around here.  I love mixing matte glazes with glossy textures, each element playing with the light a bit differently.  And of course it's all about COLOR!!
I love the stripes!  I really do... But would ya take a teeny little peek at the runs?
I LOVE MY WORK!

TEXTURE!

It's my VERY FAVORITE part! Adding the texture once the glaze is dry.
I also love how it interacts with the light!

Working with glass is SO FUN!

Now I have to leave it alone for 24 hours so it can dry enough to be ready to fire.

I'm trying to be patient, really I am!

I'd kinda like my kitchen back, I'm hungry and I need to do laundry before toooo long! But I'm really thrilled that I've figured out a way to do this in such confined quarters.

Not much longer and I'll get to see how it comes out!
(The Freedom Quilt is being SO patient while I work on other projects)

Delightful Mess!

The first phase of glazing is finished, and THERE ARE SOME LOVELY DRIPS!
Can't wait to do the next layer! I think that's my favorite part!

Happy Accident!

Well I didn't expect that...
Every now and then the glaze will run under the perfect set of circumstances only it's hard to duplicate the desired effect.
I just figured it out!
Something tells me LOTS of vases are going to have drips on them!
I LOVE MY WORK!!!!!

*tickled PINK!*

Back in the Kitchen Again

It's that time again, kids! I've sent lots and lots of glass through the dish washer. I got out all my colors...
Seems like every surface in the kitchen has disappeared under glass...
or glaze.
My paint brushes are all ready, so are the little spongy things.

It's taken a long time, and quite honestly I didn't know if it could be done in a tiny little apartment kitchen...

But I'm giving it my best shot!

Cool!

Blog? What blog? I know I haven't written much lately, and I may not be around for a while. I have moved and don't know quite what to do about studio space. All in good time I suppose.

I did want to pass along this little treat.

My work is on the cover of a local weekly paper:

That's my display at the Oasis gallery, my art glass with my dyed scarves, there is a corner of one of my dyed skirts showing and a portion of one of my art quilts on the wall above. I have asked my friends who live in the paper's coverage area to save me copies of this paper. I'm very pleased.

And this excellent article is inside:

Featured Artist Display May/June

I'm the featured artist at Oasis Gallery in Harrisonburg, Virginia for the months of May and June.  I've shown lots of pieces of the display, here's your chance to get back and take a look at the whole thing.
There are art quilts on the wall, some framed and some unframed.
Hanging on the wall I also have colorful hand dyed scarves in a variety of styles, cut velvet, cut satin and lovely silk scarves in a rich variety of colors.
And lots and lots of glazed art glass!
I'm pleased with how it all came together!

Happy Colors, Happy Creating,

The Quilt Inspired by a Vase

This quilt top that I made the other day... (colors not true)
Today I quilted it and combined it with one of these dimensional frames.... (These have glass and the artwork is raised about a half inch off of the surface and there is a spacer so that the quilt is still not touching the glass.)
This resulted in this piece:
And here it is with the vase that inspired the color choice... a vase that I glazed sometime last year. I LIKE them together! These will be fun to use in my exhibit on Monday.

New Kitchen Details

I posted this "before" photo... well.. uh... before. But I have to keep reminding myself that it's the same place, just getting rid of THAT FLOOR made a big difference in how I felt about the room.

We changed out the lighting and painted the walls blue.  The cabinets (in that section at least) are painted, the hinges came and we were able to get the doors back on. Believe me, I'm grateful for that! And I really really like my polymer clay covered knobs on the upper cabinets and the simple black ones on the lower ones. I'm not usually into details like a polymer clay handle, that but this time it feels right.  It seems like it might be a good idea to go back and paint the toe kick, huh?!  Funny, it didn't occur to any of us working on the project at the time.  And now it's on my list.  I LOVE my new floor!  That project seemed to take forever but I am pleased with the result!

So... let's see.  Here we have a little of my hand painted glass.  A framed photography grouping that spells out the word "PEACE" with photographs I took around my adopted home town a while back.  I took two weeks walking around town looking at things and photographing everything that looked like an alphabet letter.  THAT was fun!  Try it sometime, it's a creative exercise in adjusting your vision to see beyond what you think is in front of you.  Alphabet photography got popular and then started to look a little kitchy to me.  Oh well.  I photographed the entire alphabet, the Q was one of the harder ones to find but I have a good one!  You may recognize that little floral quilt from a recent blog post.  And also the open sign from my gallery in the old days.  So far so good.  Feel free to leave a comment!

New Glazed Glass

I've been in full tilt production of glazed glass recently to prep for some holiday shows. I've been a little behind about documenting the work with photographs. So this is me playing "catch up!"

Click on an image for a closer look, there is a wide variety of colors and shapes here.

The largest ones: $44 - $47
I reclaim glass and glaze it, I'm not actually blowing glass or creating the shapes, just redeeming something that would otherwise be headed for the landfill or recycling. There four are $29 - $44
This one third from right is interesting with the frosted glass, I haven't done much with frosting but I think I'll be doing more now! $24 - $44
Again with the frosted gradation of color along with the frosted look on first and second from last one here: $27 - $42
Last one on right one of my favorites, I've always loved turquoise and purple together. $19 - $36
These are the smallest ones, for some reason the little ones are always my favorites. There just isn't anything much better than one of these little buggas with a few blooms from the garden on the table in the summer time! $16 - $19
I've got more glazed glass in the works, photos to come. Is there anything better than playing with color for a living? I doubt it. I really doubt it.

Thanks to each of you for dropping by my blog. I've started lists in the side bar of visitors to my blog and the countries or states they visit from, this fascinates me and makes me feel that this big world of us is just a little smaller than it used to be. So here's to connections across time and space. Thanks for visiting my blog, wherever you hail from, come back soon! Never can tell what I'll be into next!

Community Bazaar

Photos from the holiday show. My booth had painted art glass and hand made soap:
Dichroic glass pendants:
Hand dyed silk scarves, cut velvet scarves and cut satin scarves blowing in the wind:
Some quilts around the edges
And lots and lots of sunshine! Yay for sunshine, otherwise the cold would have gotten me!
It was a good day, lots of people came through and a few friends dropped by to say hi. Our local paper sent a reporter and he quoted the most mundane thing I said and they ran photos of board looking venders. Oh well. We set up at 7 am and went home at about 4:30 pm, it was a long cold day but worth it. I went home and curled up under lots of blankets, happy to be in out of the cold!

With Gratitude, my 200th Blog Post! (And a Give-Away!!)

It’s hard to believe I’ve written 200 posts on this blog but I have. I’m grateful for those of you who pop by and leave your comments, thanks for being out there and interested in whatever is coming out of Studio B at the moment. No doubt that it’s always going to be something different.

I’ve put together a little package as my way of saying thanks for being out there, thanks for reading and thanks for leaving comments.
First, a small vase. I call these “rose vases” because they are perfect for a little bouquet of whatever is in bloom. I’m not a big gardener but I like picking up a bouquet of flowers at the supermarket sometimes and bringing them home. This is the kind of vase I always reach for when I do that, add a few marbles in the bottom and trim all the stems on the flowers and pop them in one at a time. Before long you’ve got a lovely little bouquet for the kitchen counter, the office or the bathroom. It’s a great way to brighten up the place or greet guests, and of course a small vase with some lovely fresh blooms is always a lovely gift.

This is a painted vase that has been fired to thermo harden the glaze resulting in a dishwasher resistant finish. In other words, you can run it through the dishwasher but if you do it too often you’ll start to lose the texture on the vase. But really, I think most of us can hand wash a small vase with no trouble.
Secondly, a small dichroic glass pendant with a little millefiori flower at the lower edge. Add a simple chain or tie with the satin cord I’ll include and it will be a lovely and delicate accent for whatever you’ve chosen to wear.
Finally, three olive oil guest soaps complete the package. First, Lapis Clove is inspired by the stone Lapis and has gold leaf in it to mimic the gold flecks in the stone. The fragrance is a fresh crisp men’s spice combination of clove and eucalyptus (I created it as a men’s combination but I love it and would certainly use it myself!) Tangerine Splash has some orange rind in it to exfoliate your skin. The fragrance includes Tangerine, Orange, Bergamot, Nutmeg, Rosemary and lemongrass essential oils. The final bar is Jasmine Clementine with calendula petals in it. The fragrance includes Orange, tangerine, Mandarin Orange, Jasmine and Amber, a blend of essential and fragrance oils.
So thanks for dropping by and checking out the things I make and the words I write. I can tell you that there is no other life that I’d rather live than the life of an artist!

In order to qualify for the giveaway, please become a “follower” of my blog using the link at the right. Then leave a comment below and I’ll draw someone at random on November the 14th and announce the winner that day. Make sure I have a way to email you, so either have your email address in your profile info, provide a link to your address or (in a pinch) post it in your comment. Thanks so much for dropping by. Happy creating!

Dichroic Glass Necklace Sets

I'm playing around with combining dichroic pendants into jewelry sets. Here are the first two and so far I think I'll be making more.
This one in lavender and pale green is cool in person, somehow I'm not getting photos that show the colors and reflections in this work. I need to take the time to do some research on the photography of dichroic glass, hopefully soon.
These two are headed for a regional gallery here shortly, it will be interesting to see how people respond to them.

More dichroic glass pendants.

None of the intentional photos I took turned out... so here's the one that was intended just to document the process.

Check out the one on the second row third from left. Doesn't it look like a piano? That was the one I was wearing today. Never know what is coming out of my kiln, each day is an adventure!

These pendants (along with my hand painted art glass, hand dyed scarves, framed mini art quilts) are now available for sale at the Oasis Gallery in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Christmas Ornaments

I made small jewelry pendant sized wreaths, and suddenly I wanted to try making ornaments as well... so after some experimenting this is how they turned out. Each of these are about three inches across plus the silver bail. They are tack fused and then I used my glass glazes (check out the hand painted glass on my website for an example)to add words and another layer of texture in pearl white. These ornaments meld my work in kiln glass fusing and glazing glass together. The wreath is made from crushed stained glass and also some crushed dichroic glass, all carefully placed with a clear section in the middle. All of them (some photos were taken before I had added the bails)now have a silver jewelry bail. I think these would be pretty in a window at Christmas time!
Peace, Hope, Love... mostly lavender
Peace, Joy, Love... mostly green
Hope, Love, Joy... mostly turquoise and cobalt blue
Faith, Hope and Love... Multi earthy colors.
The cool tones all together on a scarf. $35 each.
