Quilts for my kids!

I’m embarking on a quilting project unlike any that I’ve ever tried before. I’m making kid’s quilts. Three of them to be exact. But I haven’t met the kids yet, it could be a while before I get to. My husband and I are in the process of adopting three children from Colombia and it is possible that we will travel to Colombia and gather them up this summer. I’d like to have a quilt on each of their beds when they come home. I’ve done a variety of baby quilts, but our three will be between 0 – 6. In addition, because of our ages it is unlikely that Colombia will let us have children under 2 unless they make an exception because we want three. So know nothing about them at this time (we don't have an assignment yet but hopefully soon) And I’m making quilts for my children. Yay!

Want to contribute to the quilts that my children will snuggle up in? If you come across fat quarters (or just 1/4 yard) of 100% cotton quilt fabric that is fun and bright, by all means drop it in the mail to me. Oh, and smaller pieces are welcome - doesn't have to be a whole quarter.) Oh, and colorful buttons would be fine also! Here's the address to mail them to: 101 W Frederick Street, Staunton, VA 24401.

  1. Wow! Wow! Wow! [One for each kid]
This is thrilling to hear about. Must be even more so to be experiencing it!

How did you decide on three? [Not the usual number, I think.]
We have an adopted daughter, black and white mix, but no language strangeness, especially since we got her when she was 6 weeks old. She is all grown up and living with her husband the three kids, one of whom was adopted too. I love to hear of folks who don't think it is their own genes that make a kid loveable.

Sure, I must have some bright, fun fabric here hidden in the stash. I'll send you some.

  4. Hi, Carmen,
I suggest you get quilting right away because I don't think there will be much time later. :) You will be too busy enjoying your new little munchkins. We adopted 2 little sisters from Korea several years ago, they are in their 20's now. They have been a big blessing and I have a granddaughter now who is GORGEOUS! At the beginning it was hard because I was not used to the extra work, but was well worth it. My husband's sister also adopted from Columbia and was very happy with the adoption. God bless. Linda
